WindanSea’s claim to fame was its surf. Sea Lane and Marine Street’s claim to fame is its wicked shore break otherwise known as ‘whomp,’ or what locals dubbed when you body surfed it, Bodywhomping. The term originated in the early 1960s at the three beaches due to the sound heard when the wave closed out over you like cupping your hands and a single loud “ whomp” of air rushed out due to the heavy blow, slap or bang that the wave gives you.

Bill Pfanner – Athletic Ability, Beach Partying and Friend
Written by mac meda on October 12, 2009 – 12:35 pm -
Bill Pfanner and his Dodge truck he never got to restore
To many of La Jolla’s 60s beach crowd they probably don’t know of Bill Pfanner, but to the early 70s WindanSea wall crowd, he was well-known for his, athletic ability, beach life, partying and just a good all around person. A true friend to many. He had no enemies.
He was one of those Jack Of All Trades … master at making a few bucks, which ever way he could. Painting, laying brick, clean-up and putting on mini-keg parties was what he was good at.
He loved playing street hockey with Beachball, Canning, Burriston, the Wyres, Paul Dougless, Little Chucky, Bill Wilhelm, Moranville, the Woods, Otter and Beaver, and many more.

La Jolla – Car Goes Over Torrey Pines Cliff – Blacks Beach
Written by mac meda on October 9, 2009 – 5:41 am -For the locals back in the early 1960s, La Jolla’s Torrey Pines Cliff were known for three things, 1) the Glider Field, 2) Blacks Beach’s for surfing and nakedness, and 3) for pushing cars off.
Okay, the first two are still what the cliffs are known for, however the third, it is been outlawed for obviously reasons.
Back in the late 1930s Torrey Pines was a quick way to get rid of that junker, you know those white elephant Model Ts (now worth their weight in gold) that were a dime a dozen and taken up space in the garage. It wasn’t until old man Black built a road down to the beach was when the quick disposable dump site discovered. At one time there was a number of Model-Ts laying at the bottom.

Mac Meda Goes to Mars The Second Time
Written by mac meda on October 6, 2009 – 4:37 am -
Back in 2000 Jack thought it was be pretty cool to let Mars know of Mac Meda. So, not knowing all the details of how he or others did it, Mac Meda joined the mission of exploration and discovery.
A compact disc bearing Mac Meda Destruction Co was included on the next Mars Exploration Rover-2003 that would search for geologic evidence for water. Because once you find water … well you guess it, you can make beer.
One of the rumors was that there was a Mac Meda sticker placed inside the Exploration Rover by a NASA geek … Sorry as of this date we have not seen any evidences there was one. But we do like the claim to fame thought, but if you do find one, please let us know.

La Jolla Beaches – Sea Lane and Marine St

In La Jolla, there are a number of beaches one could go to. First was the fine and dirty sand of the tourist attractions of the Shores, the Casa Pool (which is a fricken seal preserve now) and the calendar settings of the Cove. All three were relative calm and good places to take the family and very tourististy.
And now you have WindanSea, Marine Street and Sea Lane Beaches, which are probably the whitest beaches in all of San Diego. Since day one they were dominated by Meda locals. WindanSea’s “Tourist Go Home” was a common tagging on the Pumphouse in the 60 and 70s.
