Jumping Off La Jolla Clam – San Diego Fines
Written by mac meda on December 26, 2009 – 9:58 am -
Kurt "Dirty Kurtie" Stadler (closest) Eric Powers (middle) and Foster Thompson show how to do a triple somersault off the clam during the Rough Water Drink - Photo by Brian Munoz and used in La Jolla Magazine's write up about the Clam back in 1985
There are only three common sense rules to jump off the Clam.
- Be a very good surf swimmer, not a pool swimmer.
- Know how to read tide charts, so not to jump at low tide (this is a no-brainer) and never jump when can see the rocks protruding from where you are suppose to land at, this means, it is very low tide. (Humm, again a no-brainer)

Carmel Valley Conventions – Brown’s Ranch
Written by mac meda on December 20, 2009 – 4:01 am -
If memory serves me correct this is Jimmy Bumstead (drums) Little Dave, Bob Morton (facing) rock a Carmel Valley Meda Convention back in early 1970s - Photo by Bill Decker
Carmel Valley in the old days was considered the sticks – depending on type of vehicle, and pit stops it took about a two beers as the crow flies before one got to the Carmel Valley turnoff off Interstate 5 and another 1 to two beers to get to Brown’s Cattle Ranch. Browns Ranch was not really owned by Brown, he had the property just North, but just an easy name to remember and one that become iconic with Mac Meda Conventions.

If you Google search Long Bar, the first three pages are filled with some historic Old Town Irvine bar called Tia Juana’s Long Bar and Grill. The website hypes that you sit under the brightly colored banners, sipping Tia Juana’s famous hand-shaken Margaritas, and eating the freshly made tortillas and salsa.

Nate Parrish – La Jolla Volleyball Champ, Model, and First Streaker
Written by mac meda on December 13, 2009 – 3:09 am -Some of the people pictured are, Patty Brewer Macpherson (Roman lady), Pat Shea (ballerina) Brunette on far right is Little John Sylvada’s girlfriend, Jack (Roman Solder). Jack always had the photo of Pat Shea framed …and there was this infamous quote to his wife Pinky, “Bring my real clothes. I know some guy is going to pick a fight with me and I don’t want to go to jail in a tutu.”
Jack MacPherson said, Nate Parrish was the GREATEST volleyball player from San Diego and his stories are legendary as this slide show of a Halloween party at his Mission Hills home in mid 1960. It was just another Meda Party where a ton of beer was consumed.

La Jolla Halloween Parting – Mac Meda Style
Written by mac meda on December 7, 2009 – 2:53 am -
Front L-R, Mike Crouse (old lady) Roger Johnson (RIP and himself) Steve Manns (RIP, Indian) Second row: L-R, Dean Buriston (Flasher) Sue Ingrahm (cheerleader) Sue Rodriguez (bum) Next Row: Bill Wilhelm (clown) Ed Selbey (himself), Ralph Rodriguez (clown) Back Row: Barbie Blum and Cindy Krug (Martins) Eber (clown, and if you look closely he is flashing, but Manns' head is preventing the wee wee from being seen). Photo by Doug Moranville and taken at his house.
Halloween is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31, but to Meda La Jollans, the closest Friday or Saturday night. As for a bit of history, it has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints, but who gives a blab blab hell about that.

La Jolla Pumphouse Crowd – Beach Life
Written by mac meda on December 2, 2009 – 8:57 am -

In this typical Meda prank and with an diverse crowd at the Pumphouse, Bill Decker has an embarrassing moment, his trunks are pulled down just as the picture is taken: Front (L-R) Robert Merril, unknown, Thomas Hendicks, Donnie Tompson, Bill Wilhelm, Kip "Pinky" Ives, Mark Edwards, Michael "Otter" Woods. Back: (L-R) Tom Jones, Lindi Person, Kathy Sanchez, Richard Krug (in back of Krug, Rupert Fellows RIP), Bill "Smack" Decker (in back of Decker the prankster) Jeff Junkins (RIP). Photo provided by Bill Decker and taken by Dean Burriston in mid 1970.
Just for starters, Tom Wolfe’s book, The Pumphouse Gang,” which he claimed immortalized the Mac Meda Destruction Co, ” … was a bunch of Bullshit,” MacPherson said during a winter 2006 conversation he had with a San Diego Magazine writer in 2006.
