Back when Jack MacPherson was tending bar at the West End, some dorky beer salesperson stopped in promoting a new type of Ale.

Normally these people would get their asses reamed and  run out.  As far as Jack was concern, there were only a handful of beers worth drinking. However, this one sparked his attention for the obvious.

“Silverback Ale,” the salesperson pitched, plopping a six-pack on the bar.

Hummm … Albert,  Silverback Gorilla, or Ale – sounds like an appropriated beverage that would fit perfect for Mac Meda. And of all things, brewed by the Wynkoop Brewing Company …  in Colorado, United States since 1858 …  another humm … is that not the same state that Coors is brewed, another Mac Meda beach favorite?

The Mac Meda Destruction Co. sounds like a joke, started as a joke, thrived as a joke and ended up like a joke.

Or is it?

Some of the teen-age, members of this loosely organized group boast the motto, “Drinking Destruction and Sex”

Here’s the joke punch line, written Jan 10 (1965):

On that day, beer flowed freely among the young Mac Meda crowd – nearly 200 of them minors – at a secluded grazing pasture of Carmel Valley, just north of the San Diego City limits.

Fifty police cars raided the teen-aged car caravan “beer blast” Four youth were arrested on charges of possession of alcoholic beverages and will be tried March 2 in a North Country Municipal Court, Oceanside.

Plane Crashes at WindanSea, La Jolla Killing Actor Phillip G. Bent and Folksinger Peter Sachse

This Military Plane, the

This AT-6 Military plane was the type that was converted for civilian use, crashed at WindanSea on July 12, 1966, killing Actor Phillip G. Bent and folksinger Peter Sachse. Both wives of the men were sunbathing at WindanSea when it happened.

I never will forget it, it was one of those cloudless, perfect La Jolla  July summer days and all I could think about was doing a little bit of body whomping at WindanSea with a friend of mind. As we were walking to the pumphouse from Big Rock,  a plane flew by a bit low, not uncommon for those days. Then it banked, rounded again and did some stunts, catching the attention of the beach-goers until suddenly it did a loop and crashed into the sea between Big Rock and WindanSea.

Mac Meda Goes to Mars The Second Time

Written by mac meda on October 6, 2009 – 4:37 am -

mars-2002

Back in 2000 Jack thought it was be pretty cool to let Mars know of Mac Meda. So, not knowing all the details of how he or others did it, Mac Meda joined the mission of exploration and discovery.

A compact disc bearing Mac Meda Destruction Co was included on the next Mars Exploration Rover-2003 that would search for geologic evidence for water.  Because once you find water … well you guess it, you can make beer.

One of the rumors was that there was a Mac Meda sticker placed inside the Exploration Rover by a NASA geek …  Sorry  as of this date we have not seen any evidences there was one.  But we do like the claim to fame thought, but if you do find one, please let us know.

Eric Burdon at a recent concert and Mac Meda

Eric Burdon points to buy his and the Animals song,"When I Was Young" which is now back on youtube, under the Mac Meda WindanSea, Sea Lane video.

Over a year ago, Sue Olney had some old time photos of WindanSea and Sea Lane. Well, Kip “Pinky” Ives made a video out of it, and launched it on youtube. The video took off and within a couple of months it was receiving 1000s of views and hit the #1 spot under youtubes  search of “La Jolla.”

It became a RF to other La Jolla elite/snobbish videos like the cultured stuff of La Jolla Symphony and Music -  to that of nursing sweet, cute, baby seals at the cove …
