Lobster Fisherman Donnie Tomlinson with Bergstrom, Eber, Tito, Percy, Jack at West End

September 23, 2009 by Albert 4 Comments

Now if this is not a great photo of lobster fisherman extraordinaire Donnie Tomlinson towering in this  classic pose taken at the West End bar that  borders (or no mans land) La Jolla and Pacific Beach -  many moons ago (around 1995). When Kip Ives (known to his friends as Pinky) started hanging out in the Kearney Mesa Butcher Shop, he meant Joe “Smoothie” De Silva. Smoothie was a fishing legend and icon in the Portuguese community and the owner of one of the top fishing seiners that fished out of  Samoa.  With the common interest of fishing, drinking and pretty women, they both became very good friends, so … [Read more...] about Seal Bombs – Was It The Start Of Destruction?

Bastardization of Portuguese Merda, Became Meda

September 18, 2009 by Albert 4 Comments

Bob Rakestraw's first real job was on a Scripps Research vessel.  His adopted parents had already seen an alcohol problem developing, so, since drinking was forbidden on these ships it seems the logical thing to do. The "dry out theory" so to say. However,  the experience did give him the opportunity to seek other means, something that had more excitement and adventurous … [Read more...] about Bastardization of Portuguese Merda, Became Meda

LA JOLLA BEACHES BEING ABUSED BY COMMERCIAL VENDORS
Some bad things are happening to our La Jolla beaches and that is, vendors are blocking off areas for private parties and making large profits off public beaches. Now as the law reads, these vendors can get a permit to have a private party and that permit is ONLY for 50 people, BUT, they CAN NOT ASK or MAKE you leave (even if they show you your permit)  if you are sitting in a spot they want to have their party at ...
