Little John Syvada – Conrad, Sea Lane and Tequila Sunrise

January 24, 2010 by Albert 15 Comments

If there was ever a man that could defied the massive consumption of alcohol and chemicals it was Little John Sylvada. He would have been a medical sensation on any autopsy table. His morning consisted of pouring his first wine cooler at 4am, taking a 1-2 hour nap at 12, and after, getting into the beers and hard booze until he passed out between 7pm and 8pm. This was his 24/7 … [Read more...] about Little John Syvada – Conrad, Sea Lane and Tequila Sunrise

WindanSea Sunsets – Social Network of Beach Life

January 10, 2010 by Albert 13 Comments

In the Florida Keys, each night around two hours before sunset masses of people flock to the water's edge to experience a soul-soothing, gorgeous, spiritual happening to play homage to the sun as it sank into the Gulf of Mexico. Vendors set up little trinkets shops and  performing artists like jugglers, animal acts, high-wire artists, acrobats, and fire-eaters all began working … [Read more...] about WindanSea Sunsets – Social Network of Beach Life

Jumping Off La Jolla Clam – San Diego Fines

December 26, 2009 by Albert 22 Comments

There are only three common sense rules to jump off the Clam. Be a very good surf swimmer, not a pool swimmer. Know how to read tide charts, so not to jump at low tide (this is a no-brainer) and never jump when can see the rocks protruding from where you are suppose to land at, this means, it is very low tide. (Humm, again a no-brainer) Time your jump to hit swell. … [Read more...] about Jumping Off La Jolla Clam – San Diego Fines

La Jolla Halloween Parting – Mac Meda Style

December 7, 2009 by Albert 8 Comments

Halloween is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31, but to Meda La Jollans, the closest Friday or Saturday night.  As for a bit of history, it has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints, but who gives a blab blab hell about that. For La Jolla, it has always been more of a secular celebration and a damn good excuse to get dressed … [Read more...] about La Jolla Halloween Parting – Mac Meda Style

La Jolla Pumphouse Crowd – Beach Life

December 2, 2009 by Albert 45 Comments

Just for starters, Tom Wolfe's book, The Pumphouse Gang," which he claimed immortalized the Mac Meda Destruction Co, " ... was a bunch of Bullshit," MacPherson said during a winter 2006 conversation he had with a San Diego Magazine writer in 2006. According to many that who was interviewed in the article, the writer misquoted and will say (even today) that Tom Wolfe was a … [Read more...] about La Jolla Pumphouse Crowd – Beach Life

La Jolla, Bird Rock Sign – Sea Gulls and Pelicans Symbol

November 29, 2009 by Albert 8 Comments

La Jolla was divided into several territories. You had the Shores, downtown La Jolla, Soladad, but none stand out better than Bird Rock. In the old days, living in Bird Rock, you were considered in the outskirts of La Jolla. Its boundary was west of  La Jolla Mesa Drive, south to Turquoise and north to Via De Norta and east to the hill. And to Mac Meda it was known for its two … [Read more...] about La Jolla, Bird Rock Sign – Sea Gulls and Pelicans Symbol

Roger Johnson – La Jolla Cove, Turkey Gobbler, W.C Fields and Demons

November 25, 2009 by Albert 20 Comments

Roger Johnson was another unique La Jolla beach character that lived on the edge and eventually fell off.  His idol was W. C Field and Field's quote. "I never drink water because fish fuck in it" Roger could quote all of W.C's drinking quotes  and would  mimic him at times sober. He pretty much acted like W.C when he was shit-faced and it became an internal personally. His … [Read more...] about Roger Johnson – La Jolla Cove, Turkey Gobbler, W.C Fields and Demons

LA JOLLA BEACHES BEING ABUSED BY COMMERCIAL VENDORS
Some bad things are happening to our La Jolla beaches and that is, vendors are blocking off areas for private parties and making large profits off public beaches. Now as the law reads, these vendors can get a permit to have a private party and that permit is ONLY for 50 people, BUT, they CAN NOT ASK or MAKE you leave (even if they show you your permit)  if you are sitting in a spot they want to have their party at ...
