WindanSea Shack – La Jolla Historical Landmark

October 21, 2009 by Albert 1 Comment

NEW - WINDANSEA SHACK HISTORICAL TIMELINE WindanSea Beach encompasses a historic stretch of scenic coastline located in La Jolla, a community in San Diego, California. It is named after an oceanfront hotel that burned down in the late 1940s. Geographically, it is defined by the beachfront extending north of Palomar Avenue (Big Rock) and south of Westbourne Street (Simmons). … [Read more...] about WindanSea Shack – La Jolla Historical Landmark

La Jolla’s Blacks Beach Key – Surfers, Gays, UCSD & Scripps

October 18, 2009 by Albert 8 Comments

Way back when, the Black Family moved to La Jolla and bought a bunch of acres on Torrey Pines cliffs alongside a canyon that lead to the beach.  A dirt road for horse and buggies followed the cliffs to what is known now as Torry Pine State Park.  With Del Mar Fairgrounds getting the A-OK for horse racing, the Blacks started a premier thoroughbred horse farm on about 10 acres. … [Read more...] about La Jolla’s Blacks Beach Key – Surfers, Gays, UCSD & Scripps

La Jolla High Alumni – Mac Meda Style Reunion

October 16, 2009 by Albert 1 Comment

When Jack took the early morning shift at the West End in Pacific Beach/La Jolla on just about any given day there would have been a bunch of La Jolla High Alumni there. Makes sense, since Jack was a La Jolla High Alumni. Many of his closest friends would stop by and shoot the shit over a few beers and cocktails. One day, Jack glazed down the bar and noticed that the bar has … [Read more...] about La Jolla High Alumni – Mac Meda Style Reunion

Body Whomping – WindanSea, Sea Lane, Marine St

October 14, 2009 by Albert 40 Comments

WindanSea’s claim to fame was its surf.  Sea Lane and Marine Street's claim to fame is its wicked shore break otherwise known as 'whomp,' or what locals dubbed when you body surfed it, Bodywhomping. The term originated in the early 1960s at the three beaches due to the sound heard when the wave closed out over you like cupping your hands and a single loud “ whomp” of  air … [Read more...] about Body Whomping – WindanSea, Sea Lane, Marine St

Bill Pfanner – Athletic Ability, Beach Partying and Friend

October 12, 2009 by Albert 9 Comments

To many of La Jolla's 60s beach crowd probably don’t know of Bill Pfanner, but to the early 70s WindanSea wall crowd,  he was well-known for his, athletic ability, beach life,  partying and just an all-around good person. A true friend to many.   He had no enemies. He was one of those Jack Of All Trades ...  master at making a few bucks, whichever way he could. Painting, … [Read more...] about Bill Pfanner – Athletic Ability, Beach Partying and Friend

La Jolla – Car Goes Over Torrey Pines Cliff – Blacks Beach

October 9, 2009 by Albert 15 Comments

Blacks Beach's for surfing and nakedness, and 3) for pushing cars off. Okay, the first two are still what the cliffs are known for, however the third, it is been outlawed for obviously reasons. Back in the late  1930s Torrey Pines was a quick way to get rid of that junker, you know those white elephant Model Ts (now worth their weight in gold)  that  were a dime a dozen … [Read more...] about La Jolla – Car Goes Over Torrey Pines Cliff – Blacks Beach

Mac Meda Goes to Mars The Second Time

October 6, 2009 by Albert Leave a Comment

Back in 2000 Jack thought it was be pretty cool to let Mars know of Mac Meda. So, not knowing all the details of how he or others did it, Mac Meda joined the mission of exploration and discovery. A compact disc bearing Mac Meda Destruction Co was included on the next Mars Exploration Rover-2003 that would search for geologic evidence for water.  Because once you find water ... … [Read more...] about Mac Meda Goes to Mars The Second Time

La Jolla Beaches – Sea Lane and Marine St

October 4, 2009 by Albert 8 Comments

In La Jolla, there are a number of beaches one could go to. First was the fine and dirty sand of the tourist attractions of the Shores, the Casa Pool (which is a fricken seal preserve now) and the calendar settings of the Cove. All three were relative calm and good places to take the family and very tourististy. And now you have WindanSea, Marine Street and Sea Lane Beaches, … [Read more...] about La Jolla Beaches – Sea Lane and Marine St

LA JOLLA BEACHES BEING ABUSED BY COMMERCIAL VENDORS
Some bad things are happening to our La Jolla beaches and that is, vendors are blocking off areas for private parties and making large profits off public beaches. Now as the law reads, these vendors can get a permit to have a private party and that permit is ONLY for 50 people, BUT, they CAN NOT ASK or MAKE you leave (even if they show you your permit)  if you are sitting in a spot they want to have their party at ...
